The Old Greek
By Darlis Lamb, Installed 1988
Darlis Lamb began her career as a painter. She now blends painting and sculpting sensibilities to create still lifes in bronze. She prefers to keep her designs simple, leaving viewers to their own interpretations.
In beginning a piece, Lamb will often choose one particularly appealing shape. In some cases, this single shape will be her inspiration for a complete sculpture. Each piece is first worked in terra-cotta. The wet clay is formed, a mold is made, and a wax negative is sent to the foundry where it is transposed into bronze. Each piece is cast and finished separately, allowing even limited edition pieces their own individual stamp.
